What is Synchronous MIMO?
Multiple Input Multiple Output is a smart antenna design that improves the range, reliability and security of wireless transmissions. RadarFind incorporates synchronous MIMO technology into all tags, readers, and collectors to provide high-accuracy location. By using multiple antennas on an ideal frequency, RadarFind hardware can communicate even when obstructed by a person or equipment for enhanced location reliability.
RadarFind RTLS operates in the 900 MHz ISM band rather than the 2.4 GHz WiFi band for multiple reasons:
- 2.4 GHz WiFi signals are more easily disrupted by moving assets (carts, beds, devices) and absorbed by the human body, causing inaccurate location determination
- As hospitals embrace the newly-enhanced 802.11n WiFi standard, they will experience a notable capacity slowdown from using 802.11b/g tags on their 802.11n wireless networks. Using the 900 MHz band for location tracking entirely avoids this potential problem.
- MIMO technology combined with 900 MHz operating frequency helps eliminate “floor bounce” – tags being shown on the floor above or below the actual location
- WiFi RTLS can slow data throughput on an existing network. The 900 MHz band avoids interference with mission-critical WiFi systems and devices
- Location determination with 2.4 GHz WiFi RTLS requires a high density of expensive access points while RadarFind 900 MHz readers are less costly and easy to install, making RadarFind RTLS much more scalable
